Did you know, repeated phonics decoding turns many sight words into words the brain recognizes instantly?

Combining Sight Words and Phonics

The Sight and Sound Method

Our Sight and Sound books reinvent the way kids learn how to read. Today, the market has separated out phonics based books and sight word practices. Over the years, parents are taught to focus on one or the other. However, in the early stages of reading both of these learning styles play important roles.

Sight and Sound books help children begin reading by sounding out simple phonics words while being introduced to a small group of the first 10 high-frequency Fry sight words. Most words can be decoded using letter sounds, and the repeated sight words become familiar through use across pages and scenes.

The beauty of this approach is that we can meet our children where they are at. We can honor the fact that each child is different and learns at their own pace in their own way. Some children need more phonics practice. Others need more opportunities to recognize words by sight. Many need a blend of both, which is exactly how this book is designed.

How Do Sight and Sound Books Work?

Each book blends phonics and sight words the way real reading develops:

  • The phonics focus on CVC (Consonant Vowel Consonant) words

  • Children can sound out most words

  • High-frequency words become sight words through repetition

  • Confidence grows before complexity
